Whitby Abbey

Although there is a separate gallery on churches and churchyards, Whitby Abbey is such a special place that I thought it merits a gallery of its own. Perched high on cliffs above the town of Whitby on England’s North East coast, it is a marvellously spooky and eerie place. In the bright summer sun, thronged with tourists it is just another ruined monastery. Go there alone on a misty or gloomy day and it is quite another place. It just oozes a forbidding atmosphere. If ever there was a haunted house, this is it.
