Trees

Along with churches and churchyards, another subject that is great for black and white is trees. They are everywhere (well not quite, photographers in McMurdo Sound or Chad will struggle to find a good photogenic tree) and make for great mono subjects. Even better are those in the North England’s Lake District. Not only does The Lakes have some of the most beautiful mature trees I have ever seen, often they come supplied with an interesting and quite photogenic dry stone wall. In fact this region is one of the most photographable places I have ever visited, a close tie with Chamonix in the French Alps for the award of photographers’ paradise.
