Mountains
Of all the wild places in the world there are none so spectacular and as emotionally overwhelming as the mountains. From their valleys and summits the views and scenes fill the senses. The constant change of light and shade, cloud and mist means that the view is never the same. At sunset and sunrise colour photography is a must to capture the range of colours in the scene. Once the day advances however, or when the mist comes in, then is the time to start thinking in mono. Quite often clouds form in the afternoon heat and their ever changing forms give a never ending supply of material. With mono you can do things that would simply look awful in colour. An example is The Matterhorn which is largely black. In colour this would be a woefully underexposed shot, but in mono the outline of the mighty Matterhorn and the white edged cloud are the only pictorial elements needed.
