Monochrome

Monochrome has always been a powerful medium for images where the mood is more important than the accurate portrayal of the colours in the scene. With the introduction of digital processing we all have a fully equipped darkroom in the computer. What was once the domain of the specialised B&W printer is now available to everyone, without the need for a dedicated room, chemicals, etc.
Critics of digital will say that a digital B&W print can never be as good as a traditional wet print. They are right but with a good printer and paper you can make some knockout B&W prints that are 90% as good as a wet print with 10% of the effort, with the enormous advantage of the Save As and Undo that the computer offers. When I was printing in the darkroom I would wish futilely for the ability to undo my mistakes. Now I can.
